 light hamburger bun - bagel sub Oct 16, 2006

I have been gluten free for two years now and have long given up on having a hamburger bun again. However, one of my favorite GF breads is the Ener-G light Tapioca loaf (when toasted and buttered, reminds me of regular white bread as tapioca tastes more like wheat than rice breads do) so I thought I'd give these a try.
We tried a hamburger with everything, burger, mayo/mustard, cheese, avocado, onion slice, and even bacon, and it went fairly well. The bun is a little on the small side and had some crumbling on the bottom toward the end, but not too much unlike my memory of a regular bun. Also, the buns are a little on the dry side, but I'm fine with that - most GF bread products are heavy and wet. This even has a nice chewy texture to it and smells faintly of sourdough. We briefly toasted it on the grill with the burgers first.
Today I toasted one in the toaster and spread with cream cheese, sprinkled with minced garlic, and this is the closest to a bagel I've had in several years. I'm thrilled! Now I have a great breakfast (wrote "breadfast" first! ha!) to try other than the regular GF cereals I've been eating for more than a while.
Plus, Ener-G products are packaged so they will have a long shelf life, so buying a 6-pack (four buns per pack) is no problem - they'll be good for quite a while.
I would give this a 4 1/2 if I could - the 1/2 is because of the dryness. However, I notice it less with cream cheese on it. Enjoy!

I was really disappointed when I tried the hamburger buns. No matter what I did with them, including heating them in the microwave with a damp paper towel, they were hard to chew and swallow and did not taste anything remotely close to a hamburger bun. This is one item I would not recommend to any one.

"AN OVERWEIGHT CELIAC"
THESE HAMBURGER BUNS ARE VERY DELICIOUS. THEY ARE NOT GRITTY TASTING, BUT HAVE A REGULAR TASTE LIKE THE GLUTEN PRODUCTS. SOMETIMES I USE THESE BUNS AS TOAST AND PUT BUTTER AND JELLY ON THEM, I ALSO MAKE GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES.

Tastes like my childhood memories...exactly what I wanted! Nov 30, 2009

Ever since being diagnosed with Celiac disease, I've missed simple white bread products...hamburger and hot dog buns among them. I have tried many buns that come out of the package heavy and don't taste very good.
These are totally different. First, they are light and fluffy. Second, they taste GREAT! I wrap them loosely in a damp paper towel and put them in the microwave for 25 seconds. Today I brought home an In-N-Out burger "protein style" (wrapped in lettuce) and popped it in this bun. For several minutes I completely forgot about my diet restrictions and just enjoyed having a burger again. This is what it's all about. I'm overjoyed I found these!

This product is just OK. Will not buy again. Too thick and crumbly. Does not hold up.
