 Great futon mattress for an even better price! Aug 05, 2007

I looked everywhere on the net for a futon mattress and was pleasantly surprised to find one on Amazon for under $100. The mattress arrived just five days after ordering it and it was in great condition. It is SOOO comfortable! I couldn't even believe how thick it was! The mattress we were replacing was so thin, that you could feel the metal frame underneath you, but with this mattress, it's about three or four times thicker than the standard mattress that futons come with. So very comfortable that you forget it's a futon; it really feels like you are sitting on an actual couch. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a futon at a great price.

In my case, I was stuck starting the semester after moving to a new apartment from a furnished one. I needed to furnish my room, but I was on an extremely tight budget. Also, I tend to fly and move around a lot so buying a mattress I would get attached to for a long period of time wouldn't be smart anyway. I am not an air mattress person, and the idea of spending 3-4 months on one was really unpleasant to say the least. This was by far the cheapest futon mattress I could find online or off and it seemed like a good compromise. Not so cheap that I end up sleeping on a foam pad or air mattress, but well within my price range for a mattress that I may or may not be giving away in a few months.
The Mattress:
Is exactly what I needed. I LOVE firm mattresses so one meant for a futon was a good choice. Blame it on years of sleeping on dorm beds. It's appropriately squooshy too, though, so it's not as if I'm laying on a rock. I was also pleasantly surprised at how damn good it looked. The cover doesn't look like its price. I really wasn't pleased about the hole I discovered in it, though. See below. Futon mattresses I've seen in the past have usually been much thinner and uncomfortable, but this is nice and thick. It's more like a real mattress. However, I noticed while moving it around that it's really hard to fold due to being so heavy and more like one large cushion than a foldable futon.
The Service:
Pay attention to the vendor's shipping dates and ignore Amazon's if you really want it. I was shocked when I saw it leaning outside my door. I had just come back from looking around at a mattress store and considering canceling my order because I was tired of waiting so long. I had ordered it over break stupidly expecting it to take a couple of weeks. Since the estimate had run out and customer service explained to me it could take 4 more weeks just to ship, I was just about fed up. Actual shipping was lightning fast, however. It got here on the same day it was sent out. It arrived in a thin plastic layer that served as "packaging" that had several holes in it that had obviously been torn while being bumped around. Since it's the dead of winter, that meant the mattress got dirty and I found a small hole actually torn into the mattress on one end. This didn't matter to me since, hey, it's only $10 shipping for a freaking mattress, but I can imagine it would matter to others.

I couldn't believe it when the UPS delivery pulled in the yard. It was extremely fast shipping. The mattress is thick and comfortable. In the stores the same mattress sells for twice this amount. Can't say enough good about this Company and their shipping. Would defintely purchase from them in the future.

I'm a college student who uses my futon as a bed/couch. Since I got the new mattress I have been sleeping so much better (it is sooooo comfy). The only problem I have had so far is getting it from bed mode back into couch mode. It might be the fact that my frame was designed for a much smaller mattress, but it still takes 2 people to get it upright with the new mattress.

Because of the majority of good reviews (I have no idea why they would rate Bargain Outfitter's so high), I bought this mattress thinking that I was going to get a good deal. 3 weeks later, it arrived outside my door this morning. When I opened it, I seriously wondered if they had picked up a random mattress off the streets, crammed it into a plastic bag and shipped it to me (which is maybe why it took 3 weeks to get shipped??) Anyway, I opened it and inspected the mattress right away because 1) it was obvious that there was a yellow tinge to the 'natural' colored futon. It had looked like it had already been used. 2) threads were very clearly falling out of their seams 3) the mattress was much thinner than expected. Also, I do not think that this mattress was 75 inches long as they said it would be; it's no good to me since the guests I bought it for are taller than the 62 inches that it actually is. There was a lot of misleading details about this mattress, as I am a very meticulous buyer. I am most disappointed in this product and warn others not to fall in the same trap. Talk about scamming your customers; please please don't make the same mistake as I and many others have made!
